Default New here and want some advice

    Hi,

I've just bought a 55 plate Vectra Elite CDTi (150ps). And i've read here of people disabling things like the EGR valve ad DPF.

Can someone explain why your disabling these and the pros/cons of it.

Im thinking of having my car remapped so if anyone can recommend anyone.
I use the car to travel 20-25k a year for work so it needs to be reliable.

    Thanks in advance.

I have disabled my egr valve to cause less problems of it sticking open a clogging my inlet manifold up also you get about 2-3 mpg more as there is no more hot gasses and fumes getting re burned

I removed my dpf you will only have one if yours is an estate or signum or a hatchback with a auto gearbox and all 3.0 v6 cdti have them

I removed mine as it became blocked an was not going to pay 1000 for a new one so I removed the internals of the dpf and refitted it then had a remap to disable the dpf electronically and now my car flies it is up on mpg by 7mpg from 44 to 51 on a run now I am so pleased with my remap and it was done by Mas performance if you want to know more read on thus section the post is had my car remapped what a difference that explains about Mas and how personally I felt they were good

And before ppl start butting in saying don't remove your dpf and egr for environmental issues etc etc ask your self have these guys done the mods or just hear say as I have and had no probs at all

But then Again this is my personal findings and I have no regrets

Disabling the EGR will massively decrease the likely hood of the Swirl valves failing and you will never need an EGR valve replaced. Unless you map the EGR out, you may see a small fall in fuel economy due to the engine putting in more fuel than needed, with the intent of recirculating it to burn it again. More likely you will notice no change. The DPF if you have one, people usually adjust the recycle periodicity. You wouldn't want to try to turn it off unless you were removing the DPF. Reducing the frequency of the recycle should save on fuel. Some will tell you that you would see increased engine temps with the EGR disabled, having an exhaust gas temperature probe fitted to mine, I can tell you this is not the case. There is no noticeable change in running temps. If you made alot of short journeys the DPF may become blocked if it is not recycling/regenerating enough.

Your spot there nutron as I have seen not a single change in egt with opcom since the egr valve has been mapped out and your right in the dpf if you map it out you must remove the dpf too and I have just passed an mot now with the mods listed below and it passed 1st time with the smoke test I got 0.7 out of a fail limit of 1.5 ands that's with no cat no dpf no pre cat egr blanked and oil breather to atmosphere so that's to all you gus who say you will have mot probs removing cats and dpf etc

Thanks for all the advice, im guessing my Manual elite hatchback 1.9 CDTi Elite will not have DPF then. Im also finding from a cold start that i have no revs, i seem to cure this by keeping my foot on the gas until it builds up slowly then it seems to "Cough" out a load of smoke and its fine again.

Im sure this is the EGR valve causing this but can anyone confirm this?

Pretty sure it is mate best way to tell is to make a blanking plate and fully blank the egr on the small pipe which goes into the bottom of the egr you will get a engine management light but it won't go into limp mode and try and rev it then if it revs as normal then egr valve is sticking open

And you won't have a dpf mate

Rough idle, slow pickup under 2,000rpm and low power at higher revs is the symtpoms of the EGR valve staying open. If it is stuck shut it will respond better.

The valve itself is about £100, and labour to replace possibly another £60. Make sure the valve is physically inoperable, as it is known for the ECU software needs to be updated and that can cure the problem too.

If the valve is not working physically then get it replaced but make sure they upgrade any ECU software for the valve.
