REALLY uneven tyre wear

On my Signum V6 I currently have 225/45R17 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tyres. Made in Germany Feb 2010. Had them since May 16th 2010 and done around 20k miles.
Today I decided to inspect the thread and joy of joys, here's what I found out

FRONT
-DRIVER SIDE ; -PASSENGER SIDE
inner wall - 4.2mm ; inner wall - 3.6-3.7mm
middle - 3.8-3.9mm ; middle - 3.4mm
outer wall - 3.4mm ; outer wall - 2.8-2.9mm


REAR
-DRIVER SIDE ; -PASSENGER SIDE
inner wall - 2.8mm ; inner wall - 2.9-3.0mm
middle - 2.4-2.6mm ; middle - 2.7-2.8mm
outer wall - 2.7-2.8mm ; outer wall - 2.9-3.0mm


Alignment, as well as front-rear change, were done at the beginning of September.
The front tyres are still legal for Winter use here in Slovenia, but the rear ones aren't.

They were always pumped up to Opel's spec for 225/45R17.
Why is there such a huge difference in thread wear????

Bit odd, I was told front wheel drive and PAS will wear the outsides, not the midle, that's usually over pressure.

apart from the middle measurment your tyre wear does not look to bad to me, as grumpy said middle measurment looks like over pressure, depends on the type of roads you have been on, road camber can wear a tyre strange, I know a good few people who would be happy to get 20k out of a set of tyres, ALSO you can put backs on the front but you should not put half worn fronts on the back,

I only do motorway miles, a lot of which were done in Germany at rather high speeds.
I suppose these will have to last until I can afford a new set. I'm still undecided on what to buy next...which tyres last 30k?

What speed and load rating are they?
Those tread depth measurements look reasonable
However, if they have been on since 20K miles the fronts should be worn more than the fronts, have you rotated them at any time?
However the rear tyres are wearing more in the middle (if rotated this cannot be investigated)
Equally if you rotate tyres the wear impression remains on that tyre
What tyre pressures you using?

It depends on how you are taking the measurements
It's not easy on the Good Year tyres as the tread footprint is actually wider than profile
It should be 225mm, however it is typically more than this
You then want to take measurements at the central three quarters
This would be intervals of 56.25mm (outer - centre - inner)

The alignment needs to be done within 100 miles of fitting new tyres
As above, if wear commences it will remain, so between May and September that is a lot of irregular wear from incorrect alignment for them to take

Finally, Good Year tyres below 3mm are at the end of their operating life

I do agree though centre wear is unusual, more common is inner wear, normally very noticeable where rear tyres are not rotated
On the front, expect inner or outer wear, here in the UK it is very common due to power steering and the vast amount of high speed corners and roundabouts (or more correctly people driving at a faster speed than they should for such roads)

The tyres are Y speed rating and not XL load I'm afraid. They have been rotated in September.

I've always used 2.7bar as per Opel's handbook and only recently started using 2.5bar. Someone advised me I should run the tyres at a lower pressure...

These tyres have been with me to the UK, the Nürburgring, German Autobahnen (corners at 230km/h),...so I suppose they served their purpose well. But I still think 20k from a set of 450€ tyres is not a lot. I was expecting at least 25k if not 30k.

Should say though, they still grip exceptionally well for a worn tyre.

Having rotated them the rears are now on the front, and the fronts are on the rear
That would suggest the front tyre pressures were too high as they have worn in the middle
I noticed this on one of my first set of tyres, but they all wear evenly now as they are rotated rear to front as they wear

Therefore, I suggetst you swap them back, then replace the fronts as they wear, swapping rear to front, so the new ones are on the rear; I've been using this method for years and works fine

In PSI I've been using 39 front and 36 rear and only recently using 36 for both.

I checked the pressure after 100miles. Pumped up to 39/36
