Default If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Do you live by this statement or are you just a born tinkerer?

As a time served mechanic i leave it well alone untill a fault develops, It will get the yearly service as required but through the year the wheels don't come off for a look & neither do i get underneath for a look.

What do you do tinker/messer/have a look or just leave the damn thing well alone?

By reading most posts i think there is a lot of tinkers...

    I'm a mixture of both...

Wait until it starts to go wrong... then upgrade where possible to higher spec parts.

Definition of 'go wrong' is:- Part fails to impress or excite me any longer

As a third line IT "specialist" (their job title to me, not mine), I've lived by the motto "if it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is..." at work for years

Although I'm generally a lazy a*se and tend to leave things until they go wrong or start showing signs of it when it comes to my personal stuff. I don't like driving around in a car where I know something isn't quite right though, I will fix it (or get it fixed) pretty sharpish if I know it's there.

I will upgrade parts to superior parts if they are available even if the original factory parts are not broken, if I feel or hear something that i catches my attention, then i will investigate. I prefer to catch a fault early to start my research into possible evolving problems and upgradable parts.. I call it a proactive approach instead of the usual reactive approach which basically entails waiting for something to break before having a look.

I look at most things on cars and motorbikes when I'm bored and think "what little jobs can I do to improve things?". Usually ends up with me breaking something though .
