Er Vectra. Beats focus every time, my friend has a 2009 one. He had a 1.6 as a custosey car and normally has a 2.0 diesel. Vectra 1.8vvt is faster than both everytime.... The non vvt 1.8 will be slower though....

the difference in power between the vvt and none vvt is not noticable on the road,, I drive both. escort 1.6 depends on what bhp engine it has they do two one is 98 bhp the other is 113bhp, I have driven the 113 bhp one and it was a good car very chuckable in the twisties, and as quick as the vec in most situations, BUT on the open road if you wanted to pass say a artic doing 50/55 mph flat foot third gear in the vec say 50 mph to 70mph seemed a lot better than the focus, the bonus with the focus even round town MPG was quite a bit better than the 1.8 VEC, but nothing in it on a long M-WAY run. would I swap my vec for a 1.6 focus,, er,,, no, but if I had a 1.6 focus I would be happy enough, my choice would come down to cost, you can get a 05 1.8 vec on 60,000 miles ish a lot cheaper than a focus for the same year and miles.

I have only had experiance against a 2.0 focus and that did not stand a chance either 2.0 vs 2.2 2.2 wins wooohoo

How you know if your car is vvt or not?

The newer 1.8's are VVT, not sure when the VVT came along, maybe when VX facelifted the Vec ? The VVT's are 140bhp

Focus is slower but will leave a vectra on bends and twisty roads

if your looking to buy, i have driven both and i dont like the materials ford use i think it feels very cheap and the interior colouring on some models wear off badly, old fords new fords
