Default EGR done but still P0400

Hi, car kept going into limp mode and spanner light. my reader said P0400.
Took it to dealers for 20k service and mot.
they read the codes but couldnt find anything wrong.
on the way home from the garage, back into limp mode and spanner light, P0400.
took it back and they said EGR needs changing £440.
They did the work today, and on the way home from the garage, back into limp mode and spanner light, P0400 code on my reader.

So, i am £440 down and no further ahead with the fault.
    What is wrong now?

I've used the garage for the last 10 years and had no issues.
    Vauxhall Merritts in Chesham.

Its not the money, i want the car working.
I'll take it back to the garage tomorrow.

fyi, when it kept going into limp mode and spanner light last week, fairly randomly but at least every 50 miles, i noticed that the spanner light did not come on in the morning when the car started.

Anyway, any help or advice would be appreciated.

    thanks
    Steve

    How much

when my egr was failing last year the car was fine until it got upto temperature then the spanner light came on and went into limp mode

I replaced the egr with one off ebay for about £220 and it solved it.

It might be worth checking your boost pipes for splits and cleaning the boost valve.

If they replaced it m8 and it didn't fix the fault, then that is their problem not yours. Get back to them and get them to sort it at their cost.

yes expensive but cheaper than Perrys Aylesbury.
i would have done it myself but i was born devoid of any mechanical abilty
anyway, i would have expected them to check the pipes when they changed the EGR. i am concerned that it wasn't the EGR at fault in the first place.

any advice is always welcome, so thanks.

For £440 i would want a gold plated egr that worked .
As above m8 with takeing it back . Just out of interest what were the labour charges as an egr would take about ten minutes to change

I can only echo the comments already posted. However, the clip connectors on the valve, where the electrical plug fits on,can be dodgy.Try making sure it's fully located onto the EGR plug and that the yellow locking tab is locked.Sometimes they can work loose with the movement of the car.FELIXX.

    thanks for the advice guys.
i go to a main dealer so if anything goes wrong i can demand it gets fixed.
ie i pay top price i expect top service - that sort of line.
my worry is that they dont know how to fix it and are just guessing.

sorry if it seems a stupid question but do main dealers have a technical service link direct with Vauxhall when they cant work it out themselves?
