    Default Mayday mayday

    Hi all
I had the spanner(in a car) light come on, on the way home from work this evevning and it went into limp mode. Reading the owner manual it mentions water in the fuel filter can flick the light on and put it in limp mode, ive got a fuel filter and im about to go and change it, Do i need to fill the filter canister up with fuel to prime it before i start it or do i just leave the ignition on for the pump to do it???
Any assisstance would be greatfull. thank you

A 1.9 CDTI SRI in his profile.

CDTi are good with that so you can use just the ignition only. Put it ON for couple of seconds and then OFF Do that couple of times and that should fill the fuel lines.
Also that doesn't have to be water in the fuel filter there might be couple of things that can trigger an EML to come up on the dash

i doubt it would be water in the the fuel filter housing causing the prob, but worth a try! when was the filter last replaced? I'd get it code read before doing anything, least you'll have an idea where your goin with it. Cheers

again many thanks for the replies, i know what ya saying with the filter im unsure when the filter was changed as the garage i bought it off 7months ago were supposed to of full serviced it, only on changing the oil filter finding it was crushed to half the size it started off as, nice! im hoping that cos its not been done for a long time that its just full of crap and water. ive been looking into getting op-com, guess i need to get it asap now.

Most of the time you don't need to reset anything.
But as above I doubt it will be water in the filter. IF you can I'd go with reading the codes firs.

Thanks guys, done the filter and been out for a blast down motorway. No light on now only when i started it up but it went out after seconds, but its got a hesitation under throttle until it comes on boost then i have to hold on tight cos it goes like hell, its as if the throttle pedal isnt quite in sync with what the engine is doing? Any more ideas guys? Again its all appreciated as like many others its my daily drive!

Sounds like a sticky EGR. Not as easy on the 120 as it is on the 150.
Its on the rear of the engine at the top on the passenger side, 3 bolts hold it to the head, thers one elect plug. Its a 6mm hex drive to release the 4 bolts that secure the pipework. These can be very tight, ensure the hex drive isn't worn and is in fully as the bolts round quite easy. A good clean with carb cleaner should help.
If you need a scan I've the software, I'm at Cosford and I'm sure we can arrange something.
