    Default Running on oil

Not sure if this is the right place to ask...so apologies if it isn't

I've heard lots about people running diesel cars on cooking oil etc etc some having to use heat exchangers to warm the oil slightly, some having to use a diesel/oil mix or an additive.

Ignoring all of the legal/tax issues, does anyone know if its possible to run a 120bhp facelift 1.9CDTi on the old Flora and if so any mods that might need to be made?

The CDTI's don't like cooking oil apparently or bio diesel either.

Nothing wrong with it as long as it's used for agricultural use. It's only a dye that marks the tank fuel lines and associated parts. It's still normal diesel though

I remember there was a spate a few years ago of folk mixing red diesel and R.O.I green diesel. It couldn't really be detected but it knackered engines

Apparently the dti can be run on veg oil but I wouldn't try it, the vp44 is fragile enough

    Conspiracy theory :
In order to prevent owners from using "free" recycled cooking / vegetable oil, the common rail diesels cannot use this, so you have to buy DERV

Red will run in anything, nearly all modern tractors are common rail. It's only a dye

Not worth the risk in using it....ever, you'd get caught and end up in prison (at worst for 7 years)

I recently toyed with the idea of buying a land rover that had been run on red and had been seized by the police. I didn't bother as I was worried about possible implications of it being stopped and them finding traces of the red diesel.

Only thing that ever goes near my tank is Shell or BP fuel and Millers. The savings of using cooking oil are far outweighed by the costs if something goes wrong
