Boot wont open???

The boot on my Signum has decided to stop working.

If you press the internal boot buttons of use the key fob, you get the usual beep or indicators flashing, but nothing when you try to open it.

A couple of times when I have unlocked the doors on the car the boot has popped slightly (onto the first bit of the lock) but all you can do then is shut it properly.

Anyone had this problem before?

Is there any way of manually opening it?

you can manually open it by climbing into the boot and popping off the little round plastic cover over the locking mechansim.. in there is a square socket that you can insert a large screw driver or socket extention into and turn to manually open the boot. Apparently the little plastic gadget that sits inside the petrol filler flap is supposed to be used for this as well.

It sounds like the electric motor in the lock has failed. This happend to my old Renault Megane. I went to shut the boot and it wouldnt stay shut. I bungeed it down but the Megane wouldnt let me start the engine because the boot was open! FRENCH CRAP!

I'd imagine a new lock would be around £40-£60 to replace.

Got it open!

The mechanism does sort of work, it will sometimes open if the car has been locked for a while, but it does this without using the button on the boot.

Think I'll have it all appart over the weekend, and check the electrics (switch mechanism etc)
Have given it a blast with some oil, but doesn't seem to make any difference, mechanism seems fine....

Have a look at this thread i got new latch from VX for £12 easy to fit.

this is more likely the problem (crap Micro switch)
