    Default Bit Weird!

Going to work in the thick fog this morning, I was off up a hill (Corkley's for those that know North Yorkshire), following another car.
OK, I knew i should have been in second gear as the engine started to sound a bit 'laboured', and just as I was about to change down to second, the power disappeared and the spanner light came on.
Car still driveable - managed to get up to 60 further on my journey - no knocks, bangs, or turbo whistle.
Got to work, switched engine off, then started it up again - no spanner light!
Great, I thought - ****** turbo probs. I know Jack about diesels, and less than Jack about turbos!
luckily, young lad at work used to work at a Vx garage, and said could be a multitude of sins, and has offered to get it hooked up to find out (free, natch!).
So, after pondering all day as to what to do, will it drive home, etc - I've done over 50 miles tonight and nothing untoward - no spanner light, usual power is back and drives a treat!

I'll get it checked out on Tech 2 (I take it), but seems a strange one to me - and I've been driving Vauxhalls for over 30 years. (Glutton for punishment? LOL!!!).

Just wondered if anyone else with a 2.2 or 2.0 DTi engine has had the same and what was the outcome?

Yep. Best to get the codes read, if any then you will have some idea what mught have happened, it is not unknown for a car to have a "glitch".

DTi engine having a limp moment......

could well be the vacuum pipes have a tiny crack or split and it couldn't provide the vacuum required.

    The error codes will confirm

Wifes 2.0Dti Siggy occasionally does it quick switch off and on and clears
This has been ongoing even though it had new swirl flaps etc fitted. Annoying rather than a major problem. Vx says it could be a sensor playing up but VX dealer says take it in when its had the fault and gone into limp mode and do not switch it off.
Problem is when it does do it she is nowhere near the dealer.!!!

I had a similar problem. And when I was driving gently all was OK but as soon as I floored the accelerator at around 3k revs Spanner was popping in. Ignintion Off and ON and all was back to normal.
Most of the cases is connected to the vacuum pipes - the rubber connections and elbows get a split and the turbo is not working as it should and Limp Mode hops in.
If no splits on the hoses it might be the vacuum sensors
    Check this post

Id go first with checking all marked pipes and hoses.

    Thanks guys.
I'm getting the codes read tomorrow (if any) and I think some nice silicon vacuum hoses are in order.
Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy from, please?

    I *think* it's this stuff

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Silicon-Hose-S...item415468444c

that is 3mm internal diameter, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm if that's the right size.

3 metres is plenty to do the DTi engine though.

Innes has created a thread about it detailing which pipes to change, but Ican't seem to find it right now.

Its it supposed to be 2mm internal diameter.

I've had the exact same problem before and although I had vacuum pipe issues someone has mentioned that it could also be the turbo actuator rod needs adjusting. Gonna check it out at some point over the weekend to see if its loose.

I have no idea what one of those is, but I'll be having a good check round under the bonnet this weekend and check out the obvious.

Car's done 250 miles since, and no probs at all - weird!

Not managed to get the codes read today, but soon!

Will scout about for some 2mm bore tubing - cheers!
Thanks to Viperone and Gayno too.
