Bought the GSi for $14,500 with 75,000km on it. Year later. Most I could get is $11,000. Even less now. Just no demand for these cars.

Thats why I've kept it. Drive it till it dies

I bought a mondeo for £2395 and traded it in a year later for a grand

Was pretty gutted about it tbh, although I made 400 quid on a fiesta I accepted in part ex for my Astra years ago. All I did was MOT it (it needed a new back box) and give it a good polish. Easy money

I keep my car for the term of the finance
At the end it will typically have so many miles it is worthless
I then run it until I am advised a repair makes it not worthwhile to own and then trade-in, typically receiving about £1000

The only exception was my previous Ford Mondeo Mk3 Ghia TDCI, which had the engine fail three weeks before its first MoT
Ford agreed to buy it back for £3500 on 120K miles on buying a "new Ford"
I declined but countered that I would accept the offer if I could use that dealerships other outlet (Vauxhall), to which they agreed
The finance company also agreed and transferred the balance due on to the Vectra, in effect this added two years finance at the same rate

it seems to me the more you pay for a car the more you lose, but only twice in over 40 years of motoring have I Lost quite a lot, both times I lost £30 a week for each week of owner ship. I somtimes think my mate has the right idea, he pays £500 to 800 top's, buys with twelve months mot, after 10 months he puts it in for mot, if it will pass with little cost he keeps it, only ever changes the oil when he first gets it, never spends much on his car. but he is quite lucky with his choice of cars.

I expect to lose more on my Signum than any other car I've owned, but I knew that before I bought it. Like ahs been said earlier, the newer it is the more you lose on trade in. My previous car an Omega, purchased for £2595 owned for 4 years, sold for £1500.....that was a good buy initially as it really didn't cost in the way of major bills in that time.

The two worst for me were a mk4 Astra 1.8 16v sport, purchased for £1500 at the time,a week later the timing belt snapped, got that repaired then pretty much every sensor went down aswell as the ecu and fuel pump, spent nearly £1400 on it and sold it a few weeks later for £1400 lol

My other the worst of the two, going back a fair few year here, bought an mk4 escort rs turbo convertible,at a bargain price of £1000 which was very cheap at the time, just a shame the numpty I bought it off hadnt looked after it,more fool me for believing history etc that was supplied

within a month I had renued pretty much the full car and spent just under 3k,but then it still wasnt 100% right,it wasnt worth my marraige so sold up for a grand
