couple of faults, help please

my 2005 vectra has got the following 2 problems within the last week or so, facelift 1.9 cdti 120

when starting it after being left a couple of days (am using the mrs' corsa for local journeys, much easier to park in town etc), it feels misfiring, but if i push the throttle pedal in give it some revs, it chucks a cloud of smoke out and it runs perfectly then.
the back windscreen wiper struggles to wipe and goes really slowly, assuming motors going, searched the how2 section and cant find anything to help with the motor or changing it

Cant help much with the wiper motor, but i would guess it's interior trim off, then just bolt in the new motor.
As for start up, it might be egr valve sticking open or one or more of the glow plugs are starting to fail.

the egr valve was done about 4000 miles ago!

It's not unusal for replacement EGR's to fail, so if it was within the last 12 months, it should have a parts warranty on it from the stealers, maybe have them check it. Could still be glow plugs or maybe even an injector overfuelling. Will watch this thread to see the outcome for my lil book of 120 issues and cures.

i've booked it in for a full major service as lookingat the service book it has had several interim services, but no main services for 39000 miles, service book says main services should be 40k apart

correct, main service at 40k or two years from reg date, whichever sooner.
