    Default Diesel Particulate Filter Re-gen

Had my first visible DPF re-gen on the way home from work.
24,656miles. Had it since 16,000miles. 2 years old.
Got to a set of traffic lights 1 mile from home, noticed the tick-over was slightly erratic. Looked at the fuel consumption and it was 0.4g/hr. (normally 0.2).
So I drove on home, when I pulled up fuel consumption was 1.0g/hr.
So this confirmed my first re-gen was happening.
So I drove off again up the hill I had just come down, held it in 2nd gear (auto box) went up at between 3,000 and 4,000 revs, continued for a couple more miles at high revs.
Turn at the next junction pulled in and consumption was back to 0.2g/hr.
Just over a week ago I did a round trip on the motorway of 300 miles.
But at 70mph its only doing 1,700rpm.
Have been using Shell V power regularly. But topped up half a tank with BP ordinary diesel. Hope thats not affected it.
Will switch back to Shell, but it is probably coincident.
I haven't found V power gives more mpg. If it does its not significant.

My 120 estate tends to regularly regen anywhere between 700 and 1000 miles. You tend to notice it when it's going into regen whilst town driving, eg, erratic tickover, but on the motorway at say 70mph, 2000 rpm it carries out a regen and is hardly noticeable.

Does she cover mainly slow cold runs Paul? That can reduce the distance between regens, with the engine effectively running 'rich' therefore more soot, and its taking longer to hit operating temp in the colder weather.

It's prob the 1st you have noticed as everytime I used to tell my car it had a new dpf fitted and regens occured any where from 300 to 800 miles and always within them ranges so your probes looking at least 12 regens your car has been through that's alot of fuel wasted on a pointless thing hence why I have removed mine no more wasting of fuel and better mpg and power also no future probs

And just passed Mot on te smoke test with no pre cat no cat and no dpf I got 0.7 on the smoke test with a fail limit of 1.5 so well within

It's a rubbish design though and all the hatch vecs don't have one so it won't cause any more effects that they already do unless you have a auto box or a v6

Mines an auto estate so not sure how it would fair without it.

This last week when I did 350miles were mainly journeys of 15-20 in slowish traffic so probably why. The time before it was a 700mile gap.
