You'll have very little problems with the 1.8 mate, they don't come more reliable as far as Vectra motoring goes, and if your car is post 2003 you don't even have to worry about EGR issues either.
It's 2004, but I think it's the same like the one from 2003

Hi M8
Good choice.
Hi mate, I have a january 04 sxi,, I like the 1.8, it does every thing I want, keep on top of oil changes/CAM BELT, ECT ECT,and it will last a long time rgds ANT.
We've got a 55 reg "Facelift" 1.8 Club Spec Hatch with the Z18XE engine...Must have been one of the last pre VVT Facelift 1.8 Z18XE's.....as the 1.8 VVT Z18XER engine was introduced shortly afterwards.
Its just coming up to 5 years old (End of December '10)...and due for it's annual service..(Fixed Service @ 20K miles or 1year - whichever comes first, with this car)...
Bought the car at the end of August 2006 with 3933 miles on the clock...now at 46.6K miles....
I'm basically happy with the car as does everything I expected it to do...
Handbrake recall done..details on here.
Rear shockers replaced @ about 27K rather surprisingly.. (one leaking oil)..
A couple of DTC's - diagnostic trouble codes...have appeared a couple or tree times or so & identified with the Foot Brake/Accelerator Method details of which are on here - performance was not affected and a U480 DTC reader/Scanner I bought off Ebay which Identifies the Can-bus protocol on the car did not pick'em up. "Ghost codes" as I call em, as they disappeared of their own accord after a week or three
The battery was changed last January('10) again rather earlier than I would have expected...
I had a partial siezure of the rear n/s caliper...after yanking on the handbrake hard on an incline at a tricky road junction to stop the car rolling backwards but after standing for a couple of hours it righted itself so I lubricated the rear caliper llevers & pivots and no trouble since....pads are still OK..
Nothing major since.....touch wood.....
MPG varies between 28/30 on mainly local/short journeys in Winter and 40/43 on long journeys on mainly Major routes eg M1 in summer....averaging mid to high 30's & calculated fill-up to fill-up of petrol & mileage covered....
I fitted Gadgetman front & rear parking sensors 2 x front + 4 x rear early in 2009, which are fantastic for the price & Front Fog lamps - the wiring of which I've yet to complete, by-passing the inconvenience & expense of having Tech2 done to make 'em work....
Both posted on here in various threads...
Hope the car proves to be reliable and you enjoy it...
It's a big car with lost of power sapping toys...don't expect tyre burning performance from the 1.8 Z18XE & I'm sure you'll be pretty happy with it...
Cheers
