    Default CDTi Oil?

My Dad's CDTi 150 has just been in for service and i saw on the invoice they had used 10/40 semi-synth oil....now i was under the impression the CDTi's were very oil specific, using a 5/30 (or whatever it is)....or is that just for the ecoflex servicing?

The car will be serviced at the same time every year regardless of mileage and also gets an oil change half way between services, so the oil is never left to get old and thick.

My question is, is 10/40 safe to run in the CDTi, or will it cause issues?

    Thanks

Sure vx put 5/30 fully synthetic in mine so would like to keep it the same, i mean it's not as if the engine is a critical part of the car? lol

Handbook lists 5/30 fully synthetic, this is more critical on the estate cars or any Vec fitted with and auto transmmission, as these have DPF's fitted.

the service should be done using 5-30 fully syn and should be done every 20 k but i used to do mine once a year min.id go back and tell them that you want the oil flushing and correct oil as per vauxhall and per autodate which nearly every garage uses

I've got enough of this oil 10/40w semi GM oil in the garage for three oil changes. Used to own an Omega. Was told it's ok for the CDTi so long as you don't follow the 20k service schedule. So I intend to change mine with this for the next few changes, every 5k.

I wouldn't worry about it,if you are going to change the oil every 6 months.I had the same argument with my main dealer and it seems that they routinely use 10-40 semi on higher mileage cars, after "06", on 12 monthly service schedules.
Really,it's a case of either or,if you know what I mean.Sometimes,if the car has always had 10-40 semi in it,putting 5-30 fully synth, which is a very thinner oil,can cause gunge and varnish type crud, which has built up over the years,to break loose and cause problems.
Also, there's the possibility of your turbo seals being breached when using a thinner oil. FELIXX.

Yeah i understand that, but surely having the timing belt changed on time is more critical than oil grade, or not?

Do not use 10/40 semi if you have a dpf fitted!, without dpf you can use 10/40 or even normal 15/40 diesel oil of no less grade than B3, obviously reducing changes for lower grade oils.

If your estate is fitted with a DPF,the 5-30 Fully synthetic oil will be more beneficial to use as it holds all the crap/soot that diesels produce,in suspension better than a thicker oil. It will mean that your DPF will not get clogged up as quickly. If you have a DPF fitted and the car is "06" or later, then the dealer needs to change it without charge. FELIXX.
