Smile 2.2dti Aux belt replacment advice please

    Hi folks,

My Aux belt has been making some high pitched whining noises for a few seconds at start-up when its wet and I have noticed a few times giving a quick chirp on start-up and switch-off in the dry. I think it may be on its last legs. I cant see a how2 on the subject so thought I’d ask if anyone has replaced one on a 2.2dti (or 2.0dti)?

Parts wise is there anything else I need apart from the Aux belt?

Any handy tips would be appreciated

mine started squeeling last year about this time..

The problem a lot of the time is that the belts have a tensioner that is supposed to keep everything nice and tight, but they do seize as did mine and sheered the retaining bolt off.

Might be worth checking that you can compress and release the belt tensioer before you attempt to change the belt, it is connected to one of the wheels on the aux belt.
It runs the power steering amongst other stuff so isnt what you want to go on you...

Let me know how you get on

The aux belt is very simple to change. If you remove the engine undertray (if fitted) and the plastic cover on the offside front wheel arch and then look up the belt side you'll see the tensioner.

MAKE A NOTE OF WHERE THE BELT GOES!

The tensioner has a hex on it (can't remember the size sorry) and you simply push the spanner to take tension off the belt, remove the belt and then re-fitting is just as easy.

If you've changed the belt and the squealing is still there then the tensioner needs replaced too

Was going to sort mine out today but a bit puzzled as to the offside cover coming off. I haven't looked at it yet but I would have thought it would have been on the nearside.

Update, my bad...got my nearside and offside mixed up...lol
