I'm very happy with my 08 SRi, despite never having had diesels before.
I'm told anything past 57 reg will have the updated manifold etc on it and shouldn't have the probs that mostly seem to be brought on by short start/stop trips, which the OP won't be doing.
I'm disappointed to see the same stuff being posted "all CDTi's are crap" - they're not, by any means. I believe the comment about speed refers to the book figures for performance/consumption on the 1.9 and V6 are similar, on paper there's not much in it, but we mostly all know two identical engines off the same line will perform slightly differently.
If you have a 2008 automatic your not gonna get most of the problems that 1.9 owners are gonna get
