    Default Heater blower!!!!!

Hi all, just a quicky i have a 08 plate sri 1.9 150brake, when putting the blower on mainly on setting 2,3,4 the blower seems to slow to the setting below what its on, as if you have turned it down? then suddenly it speeds up again, it gets really annoying, is this a problem or is this how they work?? anyone else have this issue?? cheers mitch

I have only had this issue on an older car, when there has been more current being drawn by devices within the car, than the alternator could supply..

That is, more electric out, than the alternator was putting back in.

This may be likely when several high powered items like the head-lights, rear window demister , engine cooling fan and the electro-hydraulic power steering motor are all on at once. - Especially on these cold dark nights...

Try revving the engine when this happens, and see if the fan speed increases with the revs of the engine.

Alternatively, despite it's age, the battery may be dropping a cell.

Vectra-C's have far too many control modules fitted, and so all sorts of capers happen.
Unlikely, but could be something simple like a dirty earth.

Secondary thought, have you checked that the scuttle / drain channel has been checked for being clean and dry...

If this gets clogged, then it is likely that water over-flows past the pollen filter, and runs directly over the blower motor (behind the glove box), causing all sorts of corrosion and fun and games.

Plenty to go at there for you.

thanks for that i have been using the back demister and also headlights on these dark mornings/nights, also notice sometimes when turning into driveway the headlights flicker and when stationary if you rock the steering they do this also, so it prob is the battery, car has done 43k on an 08 plate. how long do batterys last???

Thats pretty much normal for the "C" (the lights flickering with the steering). Didn't your other ones do it?

As for the heater motor, try some wd40 down on the centre of the fan. The shaft could be rusty

Batteries used regularly will last longer than batteries that are only used occasionally...

My car battery (not Vectra) was bought for my previous car in 2001 from lucas....since fitting to my current car, i have covered about 220,000 miles.

So if your car is used for short journeys, then it may just need a good long run to allow the alternator to fully charge it up.
If you already do long journeys, then either the battery is beginning to fade, or you may have a poor earth etc.

But yes, the steering -especially on full lock sucks loads of current from the battery, hence causing the fan speed to reduce...

By the sounds of it you both have a problem with the resistor pack that controls the speed of the interior fan. I had a similar problem my fan stopped working on pos 1 new resistor pack fixed it they cost about 25 quid do a search on resistor pack, there is quite a lot of info on here about it.

This is indeed the resister pack at fault...

However the original O.P. does not sound like the resister pack... especially as the fan speed is not permanently / continuously affected !!!
