Strange noiseon wifes 1.9 8V 120 at 2.5K revs

Hello all.

Just went out in the wifes 93 (56 reg) 120 bhp 1.9 tid 8v saab.

Took her down the motorway and in every gear around 2.3-2.6K revs it makes a strange 'frog croak' noise on accel and decel when taking foot off the gas.

I do not know these engines at all but understand it is more less the same as the VX unit?

No clutch slip and no power loss or flat spot and sounds like its coming from behind drivers dash area of the car.

Anyone any immediate thoughts as what to look at when (and if) the sun comes out tomorrow?

if the engine is performing ok and smoke free, and no warning lights?

does it do it when clutch depressed?

We've had lots of funny noises on here....

have you checked moutings for engine and gearbox....

Exhaust heat shields etc., can resonate at various engine speeds.
