Replacement tyres 1.9 SRi CDTi

Hi - I'm going to be in need of 2 new front tyres soon and am wondering what's best to go for on standard wheels? I seem to remember reading somewhere that 225/45/17 are a better choice for size over the standard 215/50/17 - can anyone tell me if that's right? I've had a look on blackcircles.com and both sizes are about the same price really for mid-range tyres.

And also if I did go for the different tyre size is that ok to keep the rears as they are as there's plenty of life in them yet and would the difference in size affect the speedo accuracy at all?

I have just swapped my fronts out for two new Falken ZE912's for £143 from Blackcircles including fitting.

I haven't noticed anything different.

Mine are 215/45/17 on front and 215/50/17 on rear as i was in the same position as you.

215/45? I hope you mean 225/45
