Watch Dog - Car Insurance

Is there any reason why you can't approach companies abroad for car insurance? Like France, Spain, Germany, etc etc? for cheaper car insurance?

I was watching TV briefly last night and saw the Watch Dog article on UK Car Insurance Price Increases.

Some peoples policy costs have increased hundreds of percent..

Can we shop abroad? ... I might look into this if its possible?

It would be good if we could. But I bet making a claim might be a bit of a truma though.

I like the 'guily until proven innocent' approach for that poor chap with the Audi who had a third party hit him - and all settled through the third party insurance -no claim on his and was told - 'people involved in accident even tho not at fault are more likely to make a claim in future'.. so you're being punished for a crime you haven't yet committed!!

from experience insurance abroad is more expensive unless you also hold a driving licence for that country, i spent 10 months driving round europe in a french registered car i purchased on arrival in france, getting insured was a nightmare because i didnt hold a french licence, and the company that was cheapest charged me extra for having a uk licence not a french one!

But this wouldnt apply. We're not looking for French Insurance to drive a french car in France.

We want car insurance for a UK car on a UK drivers licence in the Uk

So I cant see why it would be a nightmare, unless they couldnt register it on the UK Insurance Database (police ANPR)

People get off-shore mortgages, so why cant we get offshore car insurance?

Just spoke with my car insurer and she reckons my premium will go up 25% for next months renewal on the VXR.

So not too bad I suppose compared to others... but its still a £125 increase for nothing

go on french websites, you have to have a french postal address, and there websites dont recognise english registrations

Yeah,.. I think the way our system is all databased linked that the option is not available

so you're being punished for a crime you haven't yet committed

Claiming your policy is not a crime, it forms part of the agreement and contract you have entered into

In this case the policy holder accepted an external offer, instead of on their own policy
Obviously they are then going to be seen as a higher risk
