What engine and trim level are you interested in? I would go for the top trim. Easier to give it SRi type looks than it is to kit out an SRi with decent equipment levels.

The one I'm going to look at tomorrow is a 2008MY 08 plate 1.8VVT Design 5Dr Hatch in Star Silver - completely standard spec. has just over 17,200 miles on I think, so not too bad!

I'd say similar to William, go for the best spec you can - assuming the extra bells ans whistles are actually something you want, ie no point me having rear electric windows, as no-one ever sits there lol. The SRi spec and suspension suits me, but we're all different, or they'd only make one model and spec. Decide which ones right for you, don't get something that's not what you really want or that's not suited for the use you intended putting it to - ie CDTi for all short start/stop journeys. Enjoy your purchase!
