does it have climate control....if it does might be a idea to turn off the aircon cus this runs all the time and will sap engine heat beeing as it use's the cooling fans most the time ...if itaint got climate investigate more into the thermo

Just manual air con, as it is just an SRi. Did have the air con on, to help keep the screen clear.
hmmm intresting this happend to me, just the same sat around 70 degrees i thought might be a sticky thermostat takes me 30mins to get to work and i found unless im stood still the car temp wont go above 70
mine averages 82-85
I asked the very same question a few days ago.
I'm not worried as it seems the norm with these engines.
Coupled with the recent temp drop you will also suffer a mpg decrease whilst the engine takes longer to reach proper operating temp.
Infact mine never reaches proper temp because I don't do a long enough journey to work and back. That's not good for any engine I know but we all do it. It does get a good run at least every week though.
Mick
mine hardly moves at all..............never worried about it, been like it since i got it two years ago
Well I kept a close eye on it on my way home. Ambient temp was about 10 degrees higher, but the car heated up to its normal 85. I then turned the heater blower up to 4 as I had had it that morning and the temp guage started to fall. Turned them back down to 1 nad it rose. So looks like it was just because I had the heaters on full blast in the morning.
If you can cope with no heat turn to cold the engine should warm up a little quicker.
Don't worry about what the temp gauge says. I've got a 55 plate 1.9CDTi. Had if from new as a company car. It's now done 95,000 miles. Dealer serviced regularly. In the last 2 years I've been doing less than 200m a week - journeys vary between 1 and 60 miles urban and motorway. Fuel consumption is never less than 50mpg on average each week. The temp gauge never reaches the mid-way point unless I'm stuck on the M25 car park for more than 15mins. It then goes right down when I get moving again. In the last few months the alternator went, front springs had to be replaced and now the heater has stopped working completely (no idea what that's going to cost - it's off to the garage in the morning). The garage has also told me the cam belt should be changed next summer at it's 100,000m service (big bucks). Temp is the least of your problems.
