Morning

So, I went out to the car this morning and as I was gently scraping the ice off of my car a gent halfway down my street (merc driver), who I have had numerous run in's with because he is a truly arrogant and terrible driver, decides the best way to de-ice his car is with a kettle of boiling water!!!!!!

So, as we have not seen eye to eye in the past I decide not to warn him against this, this scumbag OBVIOUSLY knows a lot more about cars than I do, and is a much better driver, you can tell that by the way he drives at 60mph past schools, cuts people up and screams abuse out of the window at people who are 'in his way' and generally is the reason our insurance is so high. You know the type of person you wish would just get nicked but never does, that's him.

Sorry, I digress. So he pours the boiling water all over his roof and windscreen, the next thing i hear is " OH **&^ OFF!!!! "

He was right, it worked, no ice on his windscreen but one HUUUUUUGGGGGEEEE crack right across the front!

I drove of an felt a bit better about the day and I did not say a word.

Yes you should use water that is not heated. You have to be ready to wipe the screen immediately to avoid it re-freezing on a really cold morning, but no need to use boiling water. Scraping alone doesn't usually work and deicer products are often bad for your paint. I miss the heated screen on my Mondeo.............

exellent!! I just warm the car up - engine running for 5 mins. Not a fan of covering the car in chemicals or scraping things!

When I lived in Ilford, an neighbour did this on cold mornings. Went out started the car, went back in. He got his car stolen and the insurance would not pay out because he had left it unlocked and with the keys in.................

LOL, he was cold life'd. He did it not just to clear the screen, but so the car was warm before he had to sit in it as well.

Stolen whilst de-icing, nightmare! I must admit I tend to sit in the car with a cup of tea and let the engine warm nicely, it's rare I scrape but I am so glad I did this morning after seeing that muppet!

justice done :-) I used a CD case to scrape the ice off this morning. Was running a bit late so had no time to wait for the screen to heat up.
