Carbon Pollen Filters - wow they are effective

I have an ongoing issue with fumes escaping from inlet manifold and entering into cabin. I had an ordinary pollen filter for last 3 years so swapped it for a new carbon filter at the weekend and wow, it has stopped the fumes. I never expected it to be that effective. This obviously has not solved the root problem but buys me some more time to consider my options whilst still allowing me to drive the car. Based on my experience, I would recommend a carbon pollen filter (circa £15 inc P&P) as it does cut out normal day to day traffic smells.

I have the same problems with exhaust fumes inside the cabin and wondered how much mileage you have on your car,as I think my problem could be my swirl flap seats leaking due to the mileage and general wear and tear on the inlet manifold.FELIXX.

Where is the pollon fillter on a 58 plate vectra?

All pollen filters are on the passenger side windscreen wiper valance , lift your bonnet and below the winscreen you will see a cut out section lift that and below it you will find the filter .

I have the same problems with exhaust fumes inside the cabin and wondered how much mileage you have on your car,as I think my problem could be my swirl flap seats leaking due to the mileage and general wear and tear on the inlet manifold.FELIXX.

Mine has 50k miles and is gas leaking from swirl valves. I did a sniff test with my good old nose and the whiff at the swirl valves is very strong. Also the tops of the 4 valves are oily but bar is still attached and working. The fumes are subsequently sucked into the pollen filter area through the water drain hole at the front bottom of the pollen filter. I figured that if I get a long plastic tube and attach it to this drain hole (and seal any gaps with mastic) and lead the tube about 12 inches down, it will not draw in the fumes but still allow water to drain (need to watch the tube is wide enough it does not freeze and block with ice during cold weather.) This is not a fix of the root cause but could buy me a few thousand more miles until the dreaded day. I bought it from Euro Car Parts, £15.86 inc P&P. I think you could get one on ebay for a quid cheaper.

Same problem here..but mine is a blowing flexi joint in the exhaust. Give us a link for these..i am tempted to try anything. In the morning when I need to defrost/demist the windows it is smeling awful.
