Default Anyone getting an Xbox Kinect this week??

Anyone ordered a kinect for their Xbox 360 or even a bundle? They are due for release on Wednesday, Lots of places have the bundles in stock but not the Kinect units.. If you ordered one did you go for any other games or just the bundled Kinect Adventures??

i considered it Pete, but decided to wait and try it out before commiting to the system - i can see the appeal but its weather there will be any decent games with longevity in the launch period. or if its going to be a short novelty factor and the market flooded with 2nd hand units - so i'm waiting ...didnt help that i have road tax due this month (£435) and a modified air intake pipe (£145) to pay for as well

Indeed, a little while back I wrote a controversial article on what I perceived was the Kinect’s overly stringent working conditions, and proper illumination was one of the them.
    Ideal requirements

In addition to the lighting aspect, the Kinect also needs a things like a 6-8 feet distance from the TV, a noise-less environment and an uncluttered floor, in order to function ideally, or, as recent demos suggest, function at all.

If the above is true, I'll not bother at all - haven't got enough space in the small bedroom in which I use my Xbox. Our living room isn't the ideal space either with furniture, coffee tables etc in the way.

Well, I've not read that article, But I do know that the Kinect I have (normal retail unit) works fine without additional lighting and a floor with game boxes infront of the tv, the walls have a few pictures on them that can be seen in the image that shows you what the Kinect sees and the Kinect is placed right in front of the TV speakers (Awaiting delivery of bracket to fix it to the top of the TV) and it's fine, goes through all the tuning aspects ok, picks up's the voice commands and hand gestures (no laughing at the back ) ok aswell, only had a quick go of kinect adventures and joyride..

I just bought a new XBox for my son yesterday. Did consider the Kinect, but decided against it. Too expensive, £100 even when bought bundled with the console. Also TBH the XBox is to replace a Wii because my son recons movement control is crap for the more complex games he now wants to play (wife and I still much prefer Wii over traditional controllers). Will see how it goes, he may want it at some future point.
