turbo problems

for the past while i have had problems with the turbo bolts coming slack on my z20net. the standard bolts decided to part company with both turbo and cat so i have had them drilled out and new 8mm bolts fitted instead. still the bolts come slack and looses boost i have tried lock-tite, damaging the threads to stop it winding off and even a second nut on the end but still it comes slack any1 got any ideas as to resolving this??

oh forgort to mention its the 3 bolts that hold the turbo and cat together

you could try philidas nuts(think thats how it's spelled)they're good with vibration

Try nylon (NYLOK) locking nuts together with a locking washer and nut lock!!!! That might do it.FELIXX.

are you sure your getting sufficent torque on them when there fitted?
also why not get the original ones as there only about 1.50 each

My suggestion would be a spring washer, not sure about nylocks in that area, id think the plastic would just melt away felix.

Mine some how broke away within 30k from new. Think the replace turbo and manifold at the said it had warped ?

that's why i said philidas nuts, nylok would be no good with the heat,spring washers would be ok but steel ones would lose their spring if subjected to great heat (i think its over 200 deg C)

What MRK said, we use them at work on high temp blowers and they are very good!

You can't just reuse the original nuts, or standard nuts on a turbo.

The original nuts will have a self locking part to them, so once used the self locking is used and is therefore no longer "locking"

Standard nuts (like a used self locking nut) will expand with heat, and vibrate lose.

Philidas Nuts are your answer.
