Slippy conditions

I was driving the Vectra SRi on slippy roads for the first time on over the week end. I was not impressed. I comparison with the Mondeo, the Vectra seemed to really struggle to get grip. Now the steering is very light in the Vectra compared with the Mondeo even in the dry, but this was quite a scary experience. I am still on the factory fitted Goodyear tyres. What is your experience with these. Are they crap despite being a premium brand? I ask because I wass driving right through last winter on budget tyres and had better grip?

i thought most factory fits were continental tyres... some premiums are better than others.. how much tread have you got left?

I've the same model (and colour!!) William and again mine has the Goodyear NCT5 tyres - I actually don't find it too bad in the wet or icy conditions - went up to Invernes last November and took her across some hilly B roads in the snow with about 2.5mm of tread on the fronts and was not too bad. - New tyres are always a lot better - but I don't think the Vectra is as good a drivers car as the Mondeo by majority of reports (can't comment as I have never had one - pig ugly!!)

I've driven mine in wet and dry, same tyres, 6mm front 3mm rear, not noticed any problem.
I wrote off the Omega in the wet so was wary at first. Has yours got the SRi suspension, seems to make a difference.

william, i had the same problem with my SRI, it had the NCT5's fitted from new and they were useless especially if you are driving on country roads as i do every day.
once they were due to be replaced i got a set of Kumho's as recommedned by many members on here, the difference was unbelievable the car was stuck to the road wet and dry.
i would reccomend these tyres 100%

SRi suspension is great - assuming all your springs are intact! Worth checking.
NCT5s (from factory) are really terrible and sloppy tyres IMO. No reinforced tyre wall and they just let the car wallow around like a barge. I changed mine for Eagle F1s and they are immense. The car handles totally different. Honest to god, night and day.

Remember it is a reps car. The tyres chosen by vauxhall are chosen to be quiet and not for their handling characteristics!!

i have fac fit goodyears and find tehm very good on grip, but my tracking ws out a couple of weeks ago, and that made it handle like a sack of £$", tracking sorted out again at the weekend and back to great handling, ive never had a car where the tracking has upset the handling soo much, but it was way out

I have fullruns... Wet roads keep you on your toes and keep my driving skills sharp...
