Thoughts on Meriva 1.7 Diesel????

Am looking to get rid of the wifes petrol focus saloon and get a diesel.
Have seen a 1.7 Meriva on an 04 plate on the net.
Just wondered if anyone knows about these cars, any opinions.

Not bad little cars, we sold loads at work when they were new, go well too.
Pretty reliable cars really, only probs you get really are steering rack probs,(knocking) and electric column failures.
Engine wise again pretty good, EGR probs(usual diesel faults)

The local one has done around 70k.
Looked at another one with around 50k but the body was a mess!!!
Is the egr just a case of cleaning? or can it be blanked?

My sis-in-law has a 1.6 petrol on an 06. Not a huge spec but has alloys, electric front windows, dark tinted rears and some usual extra's. Looks quite tidy IMO. And has plenty space for 2 adults and 2 kids (9 and 11 and all the gubbings they take everywhere!)

Drove one 400 odd miles a year or so ago and it was quite unexpectedly good. Decent enough driving position and LOADS of space.

And I think the 1.7 CDTi engine is a cracker in a wee car - drove one in an Astra and was impressed.

Just look out for the power steering pump - apparently they are weak and prone to going.

Thumbs up from me for a good second car.

They jam up like usual, Not an easy one to get to, its part of the Manifold on the side of the head and is water cooled, not cheap either!!

Have ended up going for a F**d Fusion 2 1.4 TDCI.
Nice tidy little car, bit slow, but I guess that why you end up with around 65 mpg and £30 tax a year!!!! Will collect it on Tuesday.
