Evening all. Took the throttle body off the other day in order to give the boost sensor another clean and was greeted with this.

Is it time to get the manifold off to clean it properly? It's got a bit worse since last time I had a look.

    Cheers.

Be careful with this. You will need to remove the fuel feed pipes from the fuel pump to injectors. It's recommended to replace the manifold gasket too.

Unless you know what you're doing don't attempt it.

It's on my to do list for when the warm weather comes back

I will do. Tend to do things with the neighbour, been building engines for a while so knows his stuff. How bad do they normally get though? I'm not sure how much buildup is 'normal' for the 2.2 engine. If this is relatively normal I'll leave it be until I have more time.

Mine was like this when it made 155bhp (tuning box fitted) about a year ago. It's just a mixture of exhaust soot and oil

Yeah. I doubt mine is making anywhere near 155hp. Yeah thought that was all it was, it just feels very rough. Like if that got into the cylinders it would do some serious damage, work like a grinding paste if you get what I mean.

Celes; yeah it gets a quick rag every other weekend for a couple of minutes to blow all of the crap out.

Have you tried cleaning the EGR valve?

Also try some millers fuel additive

Our DTi is rough too. No idea why...others I've driven were a lot quieter and smoother. Perhaps it really needs a clean manifold...

All a diesel needs is the German Autobahn, no traffic, cold temperatures and a lead foot! Did wonders on my 3.0...now just have to take my mum's 2.2 to Germany and test the good old tractor at top speed

Tried this on our car and no matter how much additive I used the engine sounded the same...
