    Default Alternator Prices?

Anybody got any idea where the best place might be for an alternator at a decent price? Supplied only. Euro Car Parts seem quite dear... a lot dearer than I'd expected.

    New / re-con?

If it is the same as the Vectra 150 CDTi the problem is the rectifier packs up on one leg. This can be repaired by a competant auto electrician and the charge on mine was £62.50. I also have a spare now from a 150 CDTi and I guess this is worth £75. It came off an 07 car allegedly with 28000 miles on the clock.

It's under warranty why not take it back?

Unless your over the mileage guarantee but a good will gesture might be had say you pay 50%?

I bought a brand new (not recon) Denso from ebay for under £100.
This was after my alternator failed for the 2nd time - 1st time I got the rectifier repaired but it failed again 12 months later. Shoddy part to say the least.

I would consider brand new only for these. This one is £129, prices have increased a bit since I got my new unit.
Brand new (NOT RECON) CDTI alternator £129

But do check what the amps of the one already fitted is. Mine is 105A, some other models have 130A or 140A.

i asked a similar question on here before, nobody really knows what's the best one is the honest answer - tend to think the bosch may be best - but £££. The bosch ones have a higher amp rating, so check which one your car need. If it's an elite model, it might need a Bosch.

This new denso (as link I posted above) seems to be holding well. They probably learnt from the failures and improved the newer ones. For £129 brand new (not recon) it's a good deal.

I have a spare alternator off a Vectra 150 CDTi MY07. The car was low mileage before it was pranged at 32K. £90 plus postage if anybody is stuck.
