Question are manufacturers bhp figures just a rough guide?

went to car tuning clinic today with my bro to organise getting remaps done, while we were there had both cars in the rollers. according to vx ny z20net signum should be 170bhp and my bro's bmw msport should be 210 bhp. on the rollers mine was kicking out 182.5bhp and my bro's bmw was only 190bhp. can these figures be right?

The hp figures stated by manufacturers are typically 'average'. Different units will produce different outputs - but all in line with the average. They aren't doing anything wrong but it is difficult to make every single unit of one engine produce exactly the same power output. A car from brand new isn't going to produce the power stated until is is 'run in'.

were those figures at the roadwheel - if so add about 15% for the flywheel bhp (manufacturer's figure)
the manufacturer figure should be minimum - should be. you do get factory freaks which produce more.

it could be right, but these rolling road things are sometimes very innaccurate. Have a race on a runway and see who's quicker

I wonder how accurate the rolling roads are, and would you get a big difference on different ones, a friend of mine had his 04 1.8 on the RR all I can remember from the print out is 134bhp AT THE WHEELS, Quite a bit higher than the 123bhp at the fly wheel which is VX claimed.

    Not half.

You have to remember theres so many variables to consider too, Air pressure, Air temp, if the engine is new and Tight it will read less than a run in one too, etc but that does seem a bit high in your friend and Sig04's too. I wonder how they go about verifying their machines year on year? I suppose they may not want to verify them too, a machine that reads higher than its suppose to means happier punters whether its right or wrong.

Probably about right for your brothers as as Hideous says manufacturers figure is at flywheel, RR figure is at wheels. Any chance yours has already been "worked" on already?
