    Lightbulb Wharrup?

    Heya,

Been lurking for a week or so now so I thought I'd say hello.

    I've got an '04 Vectra - 2.2 SRi DTi.

Absolutely love it, though I've had a few problems so far and found this place as a result.
I think the problems have been pretty common. Had to replace the wiper linkage as it was popping out and leaving me half wiperless at the most inappropriate times

Most recently I had the first booster hose coming off the turbo develop a split. A bit of limp mode, black smoke and a repair bill later I was back on the road... only to have the next pipe in the chain go about three days later. There's a bit of residue oil in the system so I'm guess they've just come of age and got a bit weak.
I ended up buying both remaining hoses (but silicone this time) off fleabay and fitting them myself. Apart from having a rear end as sooted as a chimney sweep's ballsack I'm back to normal and turbo'd up.

I just had a K&N filter arrive this morning so I'm looking forward to getting that in along with doing the airbox mod at the same time. I'm also booked in for a major service at the stealers. Along with that 'm also going to be pulling out the EGR and boost valve for a clean next week for a cleanup...

A few questions (maybe not the best place for them):

Is it worth replacing the EGR gasket?
I've got brake cleaner, will this be alright instead of carb cleaner?
Is there anything else you'd do out of urgency to a 64k, 6 year old veccy that may help me get some of its youthfullness back?

    Awesome forum btw.

    Later days.

Welcome mate, excellent choice of engine btw

I've had my EGR valve off 3 times since getting the car and haven't replaced the gasket yet. As long as it's in good condition there isn't any reason you can't re-use it.

Brake cleaner will be fine although I soak my egr valve in diesel for a few hours first.

With regards to doing more, you can remove the top inlet pipe and give it a good clean out as the oil/exhaust gasses combine to make a sludge in the pipe. The boost sensor is also in this pipe so give it a good clean too, don't touch the middle bit though (by the way the middle but should be yellow but is normally covered in oil)

If your car is on 64k, I would seriously consider getting the timing belt / chain (Not sure which it is on a DTi) changed in the near future.
