Cheers Pete, do these look like remoulds? The tread pattern is very similar to the GY Eagle NCT's.

Not sure if they are illegal or not, I was under the impression that remoulds were speed rated.. Could be wrong though as i've only ever used one set of remoulds and they were Colway mud and snow tyres that i used on a 4x4 off roader

Pretty sure you can still get re-moulds in an offroad pattern but thats only for cheapness. You can buy new (non re-mould) tyres that cheap nowadays and that's the main reason re-moulds dissapeared.

It will tell you on the sidewall G and as said Colway were alright for a budget tyre

As John Robertson has said the reason you don't see remoulds for cars now is that you can get new budget tyres so cheaply that you can not produce remoulds cheaply enough to sell them for less than a new budget tyre and still make a profit. They are not illegal. They are also perfectly safe if driven within the limits of their spped rating, which in any of the remoulds I used in my early motoring days, allowed you to drive normally as long as you respect the speed limits.

Colways were the best Remoulds you could by back in the day. In fact they were so good as rally tyres major manufacturers used to stamp their own name on them and give them away to Clubman rally teams. Colway used to sell hundreds of tyres years ago because their biggest trick was remoulding their tyres in the Big Name patterns of the day. Remember having Colway "Michelin MXV's" on a MKII Escort.
