last Thursday I was on my way home when I had to do an emergency stop to avoided a cyclist I progressed on my way for about 350m when the car shuddered and the revs dipped. This happened again within about 30 secs and this time it kind of chugged and the engine stopped. None of the electrics went out and there were no warning lights on the dash apart from the usual ones that you get when a car stalls. The RAC can and got me and ran through the basics battery, fuel etc.
After 2 hours of trying he said it needed to go to a garage so we towed it to a local garage that deals with performance cars. When they looked at it the key failed so I took the spare. They put the diagnostic on and it can up with low response from Crank Shaft Censor. Woo hoo that's what it is they say and order one. the one that arrived was fitted and after 20 mins the car died again.... faulty sensor they say and get another one! that one lasted 10 mins before the car died again.
Last night they called to say they think it is the ECU or Immobiliser and that he was getting a car election to have a look at it.
A friend of mine works for Vauxhall and he suggested that the green wire that goes from ECU to the sensor may be at fault......
I am really confused as to why this has happened 2 months out of warranty and the car has had problems with the engine before as it kept cutting out and trying to get me killed. Vauxhall said this was due to the ECU not holding the updates they were uploading to it. They said it had been fixed but I have a feeling they should have replaced the ECU when it was last in.
Any advice would be great as I am petrified it is going to cost me a fortune that I don’t have!!!
