it says in my hand book "if car/spanner light comes on for a few minutes then goes off this is normal," I only have to change the brand of juice in my car and the spanner light has a mind of its own, I have done over 20,000 miles with this light on and off, I will only worry if it goes into limp mode.

deco, mines been doing the same on and off for months now. and at points during the last 10 months actually didn't appear at start up.. In August alternator packed up so thought it may have been that. But two days after replacing alternator and having it reset, shes back, burning out my retinas in the dark. at first only on start up and then four two or three minutes of driving. So a friend of mine told me to check the glow plugs.. sounds a bit rough but all he asked me to do was remove the plug wires and connect a small wire to the + of the battery and touch each plug in turn. Each plug on contact should give off a wee spark, and hey presto.... plug 4 was dead, no spark..

So I rang him up and he told me to take it out and test it properly. now after the first test i was kinda thinking i'm going to get burnt, so i used my jump leads and connected the negative to the shaft and the positive to the top of the plug and it hardly even warmed up. i could touch it virtually straight away.

Replaced the faulty plug ( and got spare too ) and after couple of starts the famous yellow car spanner light aint even appeared..

Even though the plugs are only used under certain temperatures, mines been intermitent all year, so I assume the controller module test the resistance on start up and brings up warning even if plugs ain't necessary
