Default Which budget tyres would you recommend?

My dad needs some tyres on the C and they are 215/50/17's.

Not wanting to break the bank, but also with safety and winter in mind, which Budget's would you recommend and where can I get these from?

I have seen another post which mentions Ling Long.....I have never heard of these, would you use them and whats the feedback like?

At the moment we have Goodyears, but dont mind changing to somthing different as long as the price is right.

    Please advise.

Shinkledink Road Fighters are quite good. Sometimes you have to belt-sand the outer edge of the tread to make it round, but once that's done they're well worth the £15 cost.

There is a thread with voting buttons on this some where. IMHO dont buy any budget tyres. Especially in winter. Saying that budgets cant be much worse then the standard NCT's.

That said I think lots of people are having success with a tyre called Neuton. Do a search on here for it, there is a thread about them

I have Nexens on my sri, previously was on Wanli which are again budgets. I have no complaints at all, although I am yet to drive in snow

I have Linglongs on mine and can't say they either sparkle or fail. It depends on what you want from a tyre.

If you want massive wet and dry grip and ultra long life, then no tyre will really hit the mark.

My next tyres will be federals had them on all my previous cars.

Last year in my 2.0 DTI astra I was spotted towing a VW transporter (van) out of the snow with my budget summer tyres (federals) so that will do me.

Currently have nexens that were on the car when i got it .. im not to convinced about thier grip levels the winter may be intersting.

Well my dad does mainly town driving, not heavy footed at all (unless I get behind the wheel). Ocassional motorway driving.

Try searching for 225/45's mate - they tend to be a bit cheaper than 215/50's anyway - loads of threads on this.

You may find some decent brands are cheaper, meaning you wont need to go down the budget route. I bought some SRI alloys last year with Wanli's (215/50's) on and they were shocking, no confidence in them at all, changed over to Kumho's (225/45's) and they are far better - loads of grip and minimal road noise.

I have Star UHP's on mine, got them from national Tyres through Tyreshopper.com, no complaints here.
