Default VXR Alloys/Tyres on a SRi problems

Got a 1.9 SRi with VXR alloys & 225/35/19inch tyres. When I bought the car the alloys were advertised as 'brand new'. Recently (including today) I have replaced around 5/6 tyres since getting the car around 3 months ago.

Last time before today I had a flat there were 2 hair line fractures in the alloy so I got them welded and replaced the tyre for that alloy, that is fine. But today on the other side another tyre gone, garage took it off the alloy and again another hair line fracture on the inside of the alloy BUT this time it has a yellow arrow pointing to exactly the spot were the crack is, so the previous owner/garage must of knew it was there and put that yellow marking on it so its got me thinking these alloys were not brand new at all!!!

Gotta wait for the welder to pick it up an sort it out before I can drive again. Not a happy bunny

Was it a private sale or a trader? If trader i'd go back with it although they'll probably just say prove it. Real pain and I bet tyres for that size arent cheap either.

Seems to be a common issue with 19" VXR/Snowflake alloys and 35 series tyres. The wheels are either too brittle for 35 series tyres or they are just too brittle in the first place.

I'm not 100% on this but to be honest welding just creates a weaker point in the alloy, fingers crossed for you its sorted this time around. With low profile tyres and depending on road conditions can cause a few issues.

The main problem is the crap roads, you have to drive round with radar on with 19's fitted. I saw a episode of Watchdog where owners of BMW's were moaning about the inside rim of alloys cracking. Owners were expecting that wheels be fit for purpose and not break while being driven, but we all know it's the poor state of the roads thats the problem. A 35 section tyre has limited suspension in the sidewall to protect the rim, it's that simple. It's a shame they look so damn good tho....the price you have to pay for vanity i'm afraid

From a company. There are alot of speed bumps in Liverpool and I go over them daily, im guessing that are part of the problem.

One of the main reasons I'm happy riding on 18" race wheels which are also heat treated for strength...

Dumped 19" VXR wheels quite a while back... not going there again for daily use
