Default confused about roght oil for VVT engine??

    Hi guys.

I have done some searches but cannot find a consistant answer.

I am looking to do a full oil change in my 2007 1.8 vvt sri and it looks like I need 5-30w fully synthetic for my mainly short to medium journeys (from 1 to 15 miles)

I want to use Castrol Magnatec which is advertised as fully synthetic but some posts are saying it is not and that it is a mineral oil (what ever that means)

All I want to know for sure is will it be ok in my Vectra VVT.

The only reason I am favouring the Magnatec is that I have some left over from my last car to add to a new full 4L can which should as far as I am aware be enough for the 4.5 l capacity or am I completely wrong ??????

    Any information will be welcome.

for what it costs the new GM oil ( made by mobil) 5W-30 dexos2 fuel economy long life oil wants some beating, I have used Magnatec, as far as I am aware it is fully synth, but it is expensive for 4 ltrs.

If the car is still under warranty (3 years) then you really should use an oil that meets GM-LL specification

If the warranty has expired then it is recommended to swap to any synthetic 10W40 oil
Ironically, the GM oil can be cheaper and just as good

go into your local VX dealers and ask the (OUT LOUD) if Greenhous in NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME can sell dexos2 plus filter and a sump seal ring for under 22 quid then why can't they.
