    Default Honda Accord Diesel

Thinking of making the leap to something Japanese. Does anyone have any experience of these?

I'm only looking at the current shape version of the Accord, not the last one(s).

I just get the feeling if I am gonna spend 20k or more on something new, I feel I'd get a better return on an Accord vis a vis an Insignia.

    Any info/thoughts is appreciated.

I like the accord, a colleague @ work has a loaded 06 plate diesel jobby (from nearly new) with no issues. The new shape is one of the best shape tourers around imo (I'm an estate man).

When I was looking at buying my current car, I had my heart set on a 2006 Accord sport diesel. I liked the look of them and a mate of mine has a Civic Type R which gets abused and stands it t up very well which speaks volumes for the build quality.

But, saw the Vectra in the trader and just thought it had the edge in overall appearance, especially with the xp kit and 19's.

I came from an Accord and can say it was far better then the Vectra. Better engineered, better fuel, better reliability. I regret selling mine and mine was an 05 EX. The new ones idtec are better. If you go for an iCDTI there are three things to look for:
    1. Slipping clutch. Not covered by warranty. Honda fixed cost of £585 to replace.
    2. Manifold leaking - Honda increased warranty to five years or 125k on that part.
    3. Timing chain noise - Honda increased warranty to five years or 125k.

The 138bhp are remappable to around 175bhp and still retain the same economy. Service history is a must with 0W30 fully synthetic oil. Mine had 80k and purred along. Great day in summary.

Yep looking at an all new I-DTEC Accord.

Gotta be honest, up close they look a heck of a lot stylish than most cars out there today.

Unfortunately the dealership didnt have the exact spec I wanted on the forecourt to test drive, but I did drive the Type S, very, very nice car indeed and a hell of a lot more classier than I imagined.

On the Insignia, I've noticed a few peeps here are having to wait ridiculously long times to get their cars. Honda have a written guarantee that they can deliver a new car in just 5 weeks (from Japan).

The Accord I-DTECs still have the DMF installed but speaking to their technician, they have yet to have one come back on this latest version of the car so that makes me feel a bit more comfortable. I think a deal could well be struck as am now very tempted.....

Well, looks like the Vec C is a gonner.

All being well, pick up my new Honda Accord next week - packed to the hilt with gizmo's galore - too many to list. I may have my Pioneer touch screen double din HU for sale so keep your eyes peeled!!

Which one did you get and what year? Facelift or pre facelift? I know a company who do a fantastic remap. Takes it very safely to around 180bhp. I had it on mine and great performance and economy.

    I am jealous!

Went for the latest, its a 2010 , EX model.

The Type S has 180BHP, whereas the one I've had is the 150BHP 2.2 I-DTEC.

The amount of kit on it is just insane. You name it, its got it.

Lane Departure Warning, Collision Mitigation, Reverse Camera, Park Sensors all round, sunroof (YAY!!), 4-way climate control, leathers all round, voice controlled (and touchscreen!) satnav, ipod docking, USB equipped, 6 disc MP3 changer, electric memory seats, xenons - the works.

Best of all, I know it wont depreciate like a Vectra - pound for pound, I could have had a new Insignia for the same money, but I know which of the two will be on the road more and in the garage less, not to mention the Accord will always command a higher price premium too. And then the waiting times for the Insignia seem to border on the nigh ridiculous.

A brand new Accord was a 12 week wait with guaranteed delivery, but this baby was just too good to miss and I shaved £2500 off the price and still got top dollar for the Vec in part-ex so I cant complain.
