Default Plasma TV or LCD TV?

    Another question for you guys.

Im going to be buying a TV soon for the new house and just wanted some advice and guidance as to what to go for.

First off, whats the difference between the two stated?

What would I be better of going for as I want HD ready, Freeview?

Help please chaps, would be great.

Oh, I have also seen a 42" Plasma - 1080P HD - Freeview, LG Branded.

    Whats it worth?

    Thanks.

    Bye bye Vec B

I just felt that Plasma was clearer when viewing at closer range i.e. less than 12 feet away, the picture was sharper and on Sky HD was what I was looking for. I looked at several LCD options at the same time but the price on the model I chose from Samsung was less than £100 difference.

I have had no regrets buying the set which is also a 42" but would go through the same picture quality evaluation before I bought a replacement as the LCD ones are really progressing in quality as well.

we've had both plasma and lcd, plasma is the better quality picture by far BUT you also get screen burn with plasma's which is usually temporary but annoying.

so in other words if you are going to do alot of console gaming on it buy a lcd but if you use it as a tv get the plasma

i have a 46 inch panasonic plasma and it is excellent , i would say anything over a 42 inch panel would without doubt have to be plasma , not sure about the LED ones , but ifi was getting say a 32 inch i would probably get lcd but massive panels you need plasma and you should get in my opinon a full 1080p probably with built in freeview and as many hdmi sockets as you can get

LED tvs are just LCD panels with a better back light source. Plasma tvs used to be better but today LCD is the better bet. Plasma tvs use far more electricity and also tend to go wrong more often. I think more plasma sets are only 720p while all but the smallest LCD sets are 1080p true hd. Still lots of variation in quality even within brands. I recently got a 32 and a 40. I liked LG for the smaller set and much better sound than Samsung. For the larger set I found Sony was the best.

I bought a 50" LG Infinia Plasma yesterday to replace a 42" LG Plasma that had a tiny bit of screen burn (from gaming) only replaced it so that someone else can make use of it before the screen burn gets too bad, can't fault either of them really, fantastic picture, far better than my previous LCD tv's..

Both the 42" and 50" are full HD ie: 1920x1080p, Not sure where the idea that plasma's are only 720p comes from..

Another thing to remember is that even the fastest 2ms and 4ms response times of an LCD tv is 1000 times slower than a plasma can refresh the same display, which is why Plasma's are ideal for full HD and HD gaming..

When I got my two tvs Currys only had a handful of very large plasma sets and they were all 720p. Size by size I see little difference in Quality between the two but Pete is right about the refresh time. Still think my old 28 inch CRT had a better picture than any of the flat screens even though it was only 480p.

Have to totally agree with what pete says but dont forget if you play games like cod,gta etc dont play them for hours on end or you WILL have maps etc permanantly burned into the screen

Incorrect - my latest tv is a samsung ps50c550 50" plasma and is full hd and as for sound quality - it wipes the floor with the sony bravia it replaced
