    Question Funny Judder

    Hello all.

I have a funny problem with my Veccy. its a 1.8 petrol. Now, just recently with the damp mornings or rainy days, when I put the car into reverse, or pull away in 1st or change to 2nd gears, I get a funny judder thats quite violent when it does it. almost like the car is stalling.

if i rev it higher when i pull off or change to 2nd, it dosent do it. but this will inevitably burn the clutch out and its only been replaced a year ago.

does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this?

as i say, its only when its been heavily raining or a damp morning. it dosent do it when its been a dry day/night.

Might be a rust spot on your clutch pressure plate. I had a similar issue on a Cav after I drove it through surprisingly deep water. Luckily it was a company car!

Check the front and back engine/gearbox mounts they're a poo design and would give the symptoms you describe but its not weather specific.

i have a similar problem when slipping the clutch when pulling away in 1st, have had it since i got the car when it was just over a year old.

it never happens during the summer, & usually disappears once the engine & gearbox have warmed up.

as far as i know it is a common thing with 1.8 clutches. just increase the revs a bit when slipping the clutch to pull away, but dont race the engine as thatll reduce the life of the clutch. youll soon get used to the required revs & amount of slip during the colder months.
