Question hissing boost on 2.0t (Z20NET)

I have started to get a large amount of hissing from under the bonnet when the turbo is boosting... As you can imagine with all this hissing under load I am loosing boost and therefore some performance loss.. I hate it..

I have check the plumbing as much as i can from peering into the engine bay and cannot see any visable splits.. from my enquiries so far my suspicions could be:

    1. a leaky intercooler of the pipes to it
    2. wastegate actuator
    3. Charge Air bypass valve (known by some as a boost solenoid)

Has anybody else had a similar experince with this engine.. The engine itself is fine, I think its just turbo/intercooler/pipework related but am open to suggestions.

I will be upgrading the turbo shortly so if the current Garrett is doing this then so be it, it will be resolved on the upgrade.

IIRC, if it was number 3 in your list above, it would trigger a fault code and/or limp home mode.

Have not checked for fault codes yet mate, will check them when I get home this eve. I have ordered a new one of those just in case and as they are cheap plus easy to change.

I do not get limp mode though. Not yet anyway.

mine was doin the same turned out that the aluminium pipe that comes from the turbo and under the sump had broken where the bracket is bolted to the sump. cost a grand total of £20 to get it welded.

I had hissing on my 2.2dti and it turned out to be a split intercooler hose. Was a REALLY loud hiss exactly how you described yours. I dont know how the 2.0L Petrol turbo is laid out but make sure you take off your engine cover and check any hoses under it.

Heres my split hose and my home made solution :

ok, so all of a sudden a dentist appointment appeared in my calender so I had to leave the office early.

I got home and jacked the car up and starting poking around the boost pipe. The metal braket was still in place and the pipe was fine in the at area. I followed it up to the intercooler and still nothing. So around the back of the engine i went (from underneath), a tug here and there drew my attention to the short rubber section that connects the turbod to the metal boost pipe. This rubber section has three jubille clips on it. The top one secures the pipe to the turbo, the second (middle one) secures the bottom of the runner pipe to the ali boost pipe, the thrird clip secures a piece of heatshield around the rubber pipe. I started fiddlling with the one holding the heatshield as it had slipped down a little, on moving it to the side I notice the bottom of the rubber pipe had perished a little and lost a half centimetre section on mone side the. I pulled onthe hose with my fingers and found that the it was no longer secured to the ali boost pipe.

So to cut a long story short, thank gawd i have a reasonable tool selection I was able to get in there and loosed the middle jubilee and reseate the pipe and retighten the jubilee. I reseated the little flexi heatshield in the bottom jubilee and lowered the car for a test drive..

    Well.........

Its great, my baby has her boost back, she pulls like f***** train again.. This morning i would have struggled to take a fiesta on but now I will be back to before and leaving all and sundry in my wake.... I will reflash my map tomorrow morning before i set off, then i will be tearing the arse out of it on my way to work once its warmed up to get the ecu set...

I think tis pipe has been deterioration for a while as i had noticed decreasing power and a noiser boost, i thought i was something else coupled with my Ramair kit.... I was so wrong....

Nigey is happy bunny this evening and my smile is from ear to ear.....

Thanks for all the tips guys.. much appreciated..
