    Default Servicing and brakes

    Hey all,

My car is in for a 40,000 mile service with the local dealer next week. They have quoted me £240 all in for parts and labour (all the filters changed as well), does this sound reasonable enough??

Also, and my main question, I have a suspicion that they will tell me that my brakes will need doing soon, so was wanting to know what the best upgrade route would be?

Do Vauxhall do any kind of uprated discs or pads that I could request be fitted instead of standard ones? If I'm going to pay for new parts I might as well get something with a bit more power. I don't want to go too crazy but this would seem to be the ideal time to do it.

Thanks for your help in advance,
    Dave

What oil are they going to be using?
That is rather expensive, my two locals have quoted £150/£180 incl VAT
    That includes brake fluid renewal

However, at 40K miles / 4 years on the 1.8 may be the spark plug renewal that pushes the price up

    Visually inspect the brakes yourself

I'm assuming they'll be using standard GM stuff, he didn't quote anything specific. Funny he never mentioned plugs when I asked him what parts would be included, another phone call me thinks!

There is a break in the service history so I really want to get it done in the dealers for this year but don't want to get ripped off!

    Thanks for the help.

They should be using GM-LL 5W30 specification oil, especially if still under a warranty
However if the car is no longer covered by a warranty then you can swap to standard 10W40, and this is typically the oil a dealership uses unless you request they use 5W30

Details of the parts required should be listed in the front section of your service book

Checked my copy of Service Plan G and parts should be :
    Oil to GM-LL
    Oil Filter
    Pollen Filter
    Air Element Filter
    Spark Plugs

This is the "main service", excluding cambelt due at your next service (60K miles)
Brake Fluid is also due at three years then every two years, so check the back of the Service Book /receipts to see when this was last completed (should be 2009)
