    Default changing the gear knob

alright, just got a gearnob from the scrap yard as mines all worn, does the actual knob bit screw off or do you have to take the full stick out with the 2 ball joint bits?

    Thanks

My gear knob came off in my hand last week it had been loose for a while. It's on splines so should be possible to knock it upwards and off if you can get something in the gap between it and the reverse gate override. Watch the reverse gate spring doesn't jump out when it comes off and disappear somewhere inaccessible though - it's just slid over the stick under the knob !! Good luck...

if its a dti you need to take the rear and front console it sounds alot but it takes about 1 hour . start off by taking the ashtray or the cover by the vents off then inside you will see 2 screws and 4 bolts holding the vents on undo the lot and remove the front cup holder there is a screw undo the rear should come away and the front console remove ashtray and trim around the gaiterand unclip. then take the trim off below the centre vents and the are 2 screws and on the sides by the footwell there are 2 covers on each side remove and undo and wher the cup holder was their is 1 screw remove thats the console done then 4 bolts that hold the gear cradle on and gentle unclip the cables with a flat screw driver and it comes away . do it in reverse to put back.

Is the dti really that different from other Vec c's?

I got the gear stick out of mine by removing ashtray, the gaitor, 4 screws on the cradle, and popping the ball joint to the linkage. 5 min job.

I gave up trying to get the knob off for fear of damaging it

old school dti's utilize a different type of gearstick assembly so to remove it is a nutache... But the gearknob itself I imagine comes off the same way.....
