Default NOISEYYY engine... getting worse :(

    Hello,

Not be on in a while but thought i would seek the expertise of you again!

    I have a 1.9SRi [150] on a 56 plate.

Its currently on 58k and in my opinion seems to be getting pretty loud. The steering wheel also shakes a fair bit when its idling which it has never done before...

The car gets regularly serviced (Oil every 4-8k) and had a service of its bits and bobs 6k ago and is having an oil change monday.

I do a fair bit of mileage (17k i think since April when i got the car) and i have toyed with the idea of a remap/box but it;s things like this that make me very hesitant.

I don't spank the car silly driving at 70 to work every day with the occasional bit of pushing it harder every so often (maybe once a week on the way to the gf's). But this raised a point, could this be the prob? do i need to spank it more to prevent the EGR valve blocking up?

'Im in Grantham at the moment and if anyone is free tommorow afternoon and could spare five mins to have a listhen and see if it's just me i would greatly appreciate it

I haven't got much idea on the newer cars, i have touched it much due to the fact the last car i modded the fuel pump went bang and cost me £2000 to fix :'(

If anyone has any ideas as to why it might be louder im all ears.

    Thanks for looking.

    Vehicle : Golf 7

    Trim : GTD

    Engine : 2.0 TDI 184PS

    Year : 2014

    Mileage : 40000

So I assume it has very rough idling?
If the answer is 'Yes' then possibly the EGR valve

Does it do it while driving?
If so again possibly the egr valve but it could be a choked fuel filter, broken injectors.

What is the power like especially under 2,000rpm?
If it is, then I would be lead to believe the EGR valve is my first suspect.

It's not rough, just the car shakes alot, doesn't seem to sound to different except being louder and the steering wheel shaking.

Its fine, the fuel filter was replaced not long ago, lives of V-Power bar the last two weeks where it's had normal shell due to cost. The MPG has actually gone up as of late, still seems to pull well.

As above it pulls well (IMO) and doesn't seem to stutter. smooth all the way upto 4k.

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

The fact the car is responsive and MPG has increased, I would say the EGR valve is part of the problem at least.

What is the condition of the vacuum hoses?

Would a faulty EGR give better MPG then?

I just had a look, and everythign seems ok, the only thing that looked odd to me is (and bare with my description) on the back of the engine, by the EGR valve, there is what looks like an oil pump? or pump of some sorts (i dont really know this engine) and the pipes coming out of it have oil on them. not masses but there is some on them.

Only thing i could look see really.

Mine have oil over them too.

A faulty EGR valve - ie one which is jammed shut will allow the turbo to spool faster hence giving better repsonse. Also as the engine can breath better (it will be drawing in air and some oil from the inlet breather) fuel is burned alot cleaner.

    That's my view anyway.

Ah ok then. Is it worth leaing it, and seeing if it trips an EML?

If it does then fork out the £90 for an EGR and get the Fiat Blanking plate?

I may try and take the egr off and clean it up.

Though this worries me as the last time an EGR came off a VX i owned the sodding manifold split in two!

If its stuck a tap of 3 should get it moving again and would confirm egr problem if that improves the issue.
