Default Best Vectra for a newbie?

    Hi
The trusty Omega is retiring to the great scrap yard in the sky, served me well for twelve years but all good things..............

Iím in Luton, like Vauxhalls and have decided that Vectra is the way forward for me. I was wondering if some of you guys (and maybe guyesses?) who really know these cars might be kind enough to point me in the right direction with regard to buying a Vectra please?

    Some info:
I donít do a lot of miles and Iím no racer but I donít mind some power. Occasional long trip but mileage isnít huge. My budget is £3000 - £4000 but I would pay more if it made a real difference. I guess that means I'll be buying a roughly 05/06 car?

Please let me know your thoughts on best engine and model. My garage is steering me away from the 2.2 petrol based on experience of reliability and ease of repair. Reliability is really important to me. I donít mind petrol or diesel. Iím no racer but appreciate some performance. Is the year of manufacture important?

I donít know what I donít know so Iíd be grateful for any other advice too.

    Thanks in anticipation.

For reliabilty, power and even tunability you really want a 2.0t. Must be one of the strongest engines available for the Vec C. There is of course the 3.2 as well

Your gonna be looking at about 5k for an 05 plate facelift though

I would second the 2.0 T as a good motor mate.

Can be picked up cheap mine is 05 plate 51K full history one owner with sat nav cost me £4300.

Stay clear of the 2.2 and prob the 1.9 Cdti 150's as they tend to have the most reported common faults.

My advise would be to buy a Vectra with the spec and trim version you really want in the first place (theres plenty of choice out there) rather than buy a certain (lower) spec to only then afterwards think you want to change the wheels, seats, suspension etc etc on it.. Design & SRI specs are nice and plentiful.. Although if you like a nice soft smooth wallowie ride (like your Omega had) then you might want to avoid SRI's.. Elegance trim cars are in abundance, but is naff in my opinion, you might regret buying an Elegance trimmed Vec...

Unless sporty looks matter to you avoid the SRi. They are very basic in terms of spec and as has been said not the most comfortable to sit in. Get a top sec one with the 1.8 petrol.
