Thumbs up Another SRI cdti 150 question

Hi guys this is my first post,

Ive just bought a silver sri 150 cdti.....

When i went to see it i asked if the cam belt had been done....

He said no but he would do it for me........

    Cool i thought.....

But then i thought had he actually done it on just lied.....

There is a little sticker on the slam panel that says the date and the milage it was done which the guy had put on.....

So i wipped the cam cover off an had a look at the belt i had no idea what i was looking for but i did notice that the make was a conitnental timing belt which matched the sticker......

So!! my question is what is the Standard belt make that comes on the engin from GM???

If its not a conti one then he's changed it!! which is good....

If it is a conti one that comes standard then boo hoo!

Also what should i look for like signs of wear ect.....

Hope you can help me guys.

O ps the site is brill, done loads of bits like the egr valve, swirl pots, boost sesor, air box mod and so on....and find the info endless.

    Thanks Alex

sounds like its been changed, my stock cdti 150 belts that i've seen have been branded with fiat/lancia branding on them conti are an aftermarket belt supplier not original fitment so its deffo been done by the sound of it

If the pump hasn't been done then they have been known to fail. Its not really needed but is good pratice imo. I doubt he has as it would add to the cost.

Put it this way, the old belt would be rather grimy and dusty and generally look a wee bit worn and tired. If it's nice and clean and new looking then i'd say you got your new belt but that doesn't guarantee the tensioners got swapped or the water pump so, be a bit careful listen for odd noises as it is often the case that a tensioner will let go and fail if the tension is released then re-applied on them sadly.

What mileage is on the car first?

Then relax and just pay attention to the noise off the engine as the tensioners will give themselves away with some form of noise.

As for the water pump again as it demands the removal of the timing belt if it fails most of the posts on here will be based around doing the entire batch but equally there are many cars around that only get a belt changed but diligence and awareness will be wise for a wee while at least.

I was a bit surprised by all this myself but it does seem logical when you start to read all the posts, on the topic.

A water pump is about £40 or so the belt will re-use but if you do decide, get the tensioners as well for total peace of mind chum.
