    Default Continental brand cambelt

    Hi,
Just phoned local vauxhall dealer to price timing belt kit for 1.9cdti 150, and told me £110 and £65 for water pump, Genuine parts.

Then phoned a local vauxhall car dismantler who also sells new parts, he told me he has Continental brand belts for £82.50 and water pump £44.
Told me continental belts were German made and used in Audi's.
Said if I wanted genuine he could also supply but that the genuine pumps were breaking anyway and that the non gen ones were as good as if not better.

Would the Continental belts be ok? All prices above include vat, not sure of the make of the waterpump.

About 15 years ago I had a continental timing belt on a V6 rover and it covered well over 100k miles with it, when changed, the 100k continental one looked good nick. Don't know how it would fair on the vec. I would imagine there is not much between them

No, i'm not in trade club.
The first price for belt kit was 114+vat and 56+vat for pump, then said he give me 15% discount, is he taking the ****?

I looked up auto vaux website, dont see timing kit listed but I'm sure they have it.
I would rather buy local if poss in case something has to be changed, returned.
Mite try another vauxhall dealer, see what they say.

Just also realised my prices for Water Pump in OP are incorrect, they should read £55 from main dealer and £31 non genuine.

Euro Car Parts sell the Contitech belt for £28.14 or £44.59 plus the VAT so if you are content with the brand (which in all honesty is beyond reproach for quality) this way you save a bundle!

Hi Derek, thanks for reply. I was referring to the Cambelt kit which appears to be £132 with Euro Car Parts.

Ahh good show sorry I mis-interpreted. The kit again is fully composed of OEM parts so should be a reasonable bet?

I am about to do my wife's Astra H 16V in the same manner
