Default Lancashire Police Arrest Own Traffic Officer

great story in the telegraph http://goo.gl/63vW notice they make no mention of his (well it certainly looks like) illegally spaced plate, something they themselves are very keen on at the moment!

I can't see anything wrong with the numberplate or the character spacing; would need a measuring gauge to check that

    As for the parking
Forcing a neighbour to drive over and mount a kerb is just arrogant
I completely agree with pursuing anyone that commits obstructive parking
Here in Scotland the law is very clear, a driveway must not be parked across (even if it is your own!)
The clearance limit from the edge of the lowered kerbside is 4.00 metres for parked vehicles and 4.25 metres for all other vehicles

Have to laugh, his affected neighbour is an ex-Police

That's possibly why 3 officers, one an Inspector attended, an ex Superintendent making a complaint against a serving officer. Seems from the damages they got it wrong, surely they could have moved the vehicle somehow, even if he was claiming unfit through drink. I suppose if he said he parked it like that due to being drunk, that makes it worse.

He suffered "severe anxiety and distress" - let's hope he never has to deal with something serious like a terrorist threat then.

Gap between the R and 1 is too big and the characters are of the wrong type face

That's very minor and it is not misrepresenting the VRM
Again, comparison with a gauge would be required

Even incorrect fonts are now acceptable, so long as they are solid and of one colour, with a minimum dimension

    John.robertson2 is spot on here.

I think the legal gap between the R and the 1 is something like 11mm

Don't mean to sound like a number plate nerd but I have been stopped twice (both times in North Wales......say no more) and reprimanded for the spacing on my number plates......in fact, the 2nd time, my girlfriend was driving and a few weeks later a fixed penalty dropped through the door (£30)

I must stress here also, that the font was perfect......none of this stupid stuff, not trying to make the reg look like something else.

And, yes the officer did use a ruler to measure the gap, and on both occasions, the "offending" plate was photographed and I was reported to the DVLA!!

It would be good for some of these welsh coppers to come and spend a few weeks driving round here........5mm discrepancy in a number plate would be the least of their worries!!!
