80, 85 is OK if it's holding at that. Otherwise it could be that the thermostat is playing up, which would also affect fuel consuption (ECU thinks engine is still warming up).

that does not sound like your stat to me, I have had the stat done on mine, as it would not go over 75, mine runs on 87 but since its been cold if I put the heater fan on 3, temp guage does drop for a short while then goes back to 87

Mine is taking ages for the gauge to go up now the colder weather is here, I went from mine to coseley and back today and the gauge didn't move much above 80 so I wouldn't worry too much Tim. What did the boss say about getting the manifold done?

probably getting paraniod about the car going wrong again but i did read somewhere that else that normal running temp should be half way between cold and max, temp numbers irrelevant.

Still dont now what the spanner light probs is but car is running good other than that
We will have to run for now until into the new year.

    cheers Dave

Dont think mine has ever seen 90 except on hot days, dont forget the temp outside has dropped a bit in the last week.

I see also you have a spanner light problem, I Can only give you my experience of this, first thing,, in my hand book it states "if the car spanner light comes on then goes out after a short while this is normal" my spanner light has a mind of its own, I only have to change the brand of fuel and the light will be on and off, my vec b was the same and did a lot of miles in that one, this car has done 20,000 miles with the light going on and off with no problems, my take is,, if it comes on and stops on check it out, if it comes on and goes into limp mode you have problems, I have been told garages make thousands of pounds because of this light when most times there is nothing wrong, I am NOT saying dont check it out just telling you my experiance's

I've already plugged it in and there is no codes in there just the light comes on, I think its down to the swirl valve gromett on number 4 cylinder leaking air, soot etc and losing manifold pressure slightly as thats the only physical fault I can find with the car.
